Enjoying Local Attractions

Conveniently situated near the center of downtown Pittsburgh, the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh Downtown is in the center of the city’s business and government districts. Here are a few of our favorite local attractions.

Consol Energy Center

As one of Pittsburgh’s favorite entertainment venues, the Consol Energy Center hosts numerous concerts, athletic events and shows that are perfect for the entire family. The Center hosts more than 150 events annually, and it’s the home of the NHL’s Pittsburgh Penguins.

Benedum Center for the Performing Arts

With 2,800 seats, the Benedum Center for the Performing Arts is the foundation of Pittsburgh’s Cultural District, and it’s the home of the Pittsburgh Dance Council, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera (Pittsburgh CLO), Pittsburgh Opera and Pittsburgh Ballet Theater. The venue also hosts regular Broadway shows from touring companies.

The Senator John Heinz History Center

Pennsylvania’s largest history museum, The Senator John Heinz History Center, is dedicated to the heritage and history of Western Pennsylvania. The museum includes 275,000 square feet of exhibition and research space and includes six different floors. Named the “Best Museum” by Pittsburgh Magazine’s readers, the facility offers outstanding stories in an interactive setting that is an ideal choice for families and visitors of all ages.

The Andy Warhol Museum

The Andy Warhol Museum is a forum that strives to bring a diverse group of scholars and artists together with the general public. The museum has a constantly changing list of exhibits and unique artwork that strives to galvanize visitors by presenting a combination of the life and art of Andy Warhol.

PNC Park

Designed as an intimate ballpark that embraces the spirit of early American baseball, PNC Park is located along the banks of the Allegheny River and offers superb vistas of Pittsburgh’s skyline and the riverfront, making for a dramatic, exciting and utterly urban sporting venue.

Duquesne Incline

Offering incredible views of downtown Pittsburgh’s skyline, the Duquesne Incline first came into operation on May 20, 1877. The Incline was eventually removed, but then restored in 1963. Today, the wooden cable car delights visitors and residents alike with its original and elegant design.

The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh

Delighting and inspiring the child in all of us, The Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh welcomes guests and invites visitors to soar through their imagination and return with a splash. The museum was named one of the country’s top 10 children’s museums by the editors of Parents Magazine in 2011, and the facility draws almost 250,000 guests on an annual basis.

Heinz Field

Home to the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers and the NCAA’s Pittsburgh Panthers, Heinz Field proudly represents the strong football traditions of Western Pennsylvania. The stadium blends state-of-the-art features with traditional fanfare, and the two-tiered facility is known as one of the most intimate in the NFL. Offering outstanding sight lines, natural grass fields and an open view of the action, you can watch football games that are set against the skyline of downtown Pittsburgh.

The Mattress Factory

Created by national and international artists, The Mattress Factory is a blend of contemporary art that includes works and installations that are the size of the rooms. The museum includes a host of exhibits that strive to incorporate all the senses in an engaging variety of media.

Carnegie Science Center

Inspiring and entertaining, the Carnegie Science Center was given the 2003 National Award for Museum Service. The facility offers outreach programs to Pittsburgh’s diverse community and promises to connect guests with the latest advancements in science and technology.

Rivers Casino

Rivers Casino consistently ranks as a top entertainment destination, and the facility is nearing its first anniversary. With nearly 3,000 slots and 86 different gaming tables, the casino is an ideal destination for a diversion. Rivers Casino has nine bars and restaurants on site and is host to live entertainment throughout the year.

Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium

Creating connections between animals and humans, the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium are designed to provide educational programs, regular exhibits and a variety of conservation projects. The Zoo’s goal is to help visitors re-discover the way in which they’re connected to the natural environment.
